Chamber hears about social media

Local businessman Josh Henry presented a program on "The Basics of Social Media" at the first meeting of the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce in 2012.

"It's where our world is going; it's not just for kids," said Henry, who owns Axess Network. The social media allows communication "across various media in increasing frequency and the amount of information transferred."
He told chamber members that they need to be on Facebook, Twitter and Linked In.
He called Facebook "the greatest tool of our generation," citing its ease of entry and usefulness for personal as well as business use. Twitter is a tool for short communications – less than 140 characters per message.
Another new one is Google+.
Presiding over his first meeting as president of the chamber, Ben Timmermann told members that the organization's search for an executive director is continuing. He said that the position was offered to one candidate, but that candidate turned it down.
June Mahon gave the report on visitors to the Tourist Information Center. In January, 40 people from 10 states and two foreign countries visited the center.
Upcoming chamber events include "A Nite at the Races" at Vandalia Golf and Country Club on March 10.
Following the chamber meeting, the annual meeting of the  Vandalia Civic Advancement Association was held.

Josh Henry of Axess Network in Vandalia spoke about social media – including Facebook, Twitter and Linked In – at the Feb. 1 meeting of the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce.
