CEFS seeking food pantry more volunteers, donors

Hunger is an issue in every community in America – one in seven people, including 15 million children, are food insecure.
Supporting hunger relief by volunteering or gifting cash will help families, children and seniors in need, including the 16.4 percent of Fayette County who live below poverty level.
This is an “opportunity for everyone to help make their communities better,” Diana Aviv, CEO at Feeding America, said.
“The goals of Feeding America’s national volunteer pledge are to help our neighbors who struggle with food insecurity and to rally Americans to take an active role in the fight to solve hunger.”
Fayette County’s Feeding America location is the C.E.F.S. Outreach office in Vandalia. Volunteer activities can range from packing, sorting and distributing food, but the biggest need is for volunteers to pick up food from donor retail sites.
Every year, with the help of almost 100 million hours of volunteered time, the network distributes more than 3.7 billion meals to people in need.
However, there is still more to be done to solve hunger in America and in your community.
By volunteering to fight hunger, you can carry out the mission for a hunger-free America.
Every dollar given and every volunteer shift served helps to ensure that the 500 families each month that seek food from the C.E.F.S. Vandalia Outreach will not have to go hungry.
To make a donation of time or money, contact the C.E.F.S. Fayette County Outreach office, 517 W. Gallatin St. in Vandalia. The phone number is 283-2631.
