Dating Violence is a very real and growing problem in our society. To address this problem, a “Dating Violence: Prevention & Response” workshop will be held on Monday, Sept. 27, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Effingham; on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Oak Terrace Resort south of Pana; and on Wednesday, Sept. 29, in the Life Long Learning Center at Kaskaskia College in Centralia.
This workshop is co-sponsored by the Fourth Judicial Circuit Office on Violence Against Women Rural Grant Project; Fourth Judicial Circuit Family Violence Coordinating Council, S. Gene Schwarm, chief judge; and Regional Office of Education #3, Mark Drone, regional superintendent.
This workshop is open to law enforcement officers, judges, attorneys, health care providers, advocates, counselors, educators, court personnel, probation officers and other professionals who provide services for victims of dating violence, as well as junior and senior high school students and parents.
Key speakers for this workshop will be Terry Lilley and Vicki Crompton-Tetter.

Lilley is the author of “Growing Strong Together,” a 15-week anti-violence curriculum targeting high school students.
vIt was for this curriculum that The Women’s Center was awarded the Illinois Center for Violence Prevention’s PeaceLeader Award in 2000 for Best Practice in School Violence Prevention.
