Carlinville spoiled Vandalia’s volleyball home opener, downing the Vandals, 25-23, 25-21.
In the second set, Vandalia had two big leads – 17-9 and 21-15 – erased by a persistent Cavalier squad.
Coach Allison Smith said those leads were squandered because the team was not playing with sound fundamentals.
“We just couldn’t pass the ball,” she said. “We have to be able to do the little things. We have to be able to pass and we have to be able to do that every night to be effective.”
