Thursday, November 1

? Applications are now available for Christmas baskets from Fayette County Caring & Sharing; they must be turned in by Nov. 15. Applications are available at County Market, CEFS and Fayette County Health Department in Vandalia; First National Bank, St. Joseph's Food Pantry and Ramsey Grade School in Ramsey; Brownstown Elementary School and Victory Lane in Brownstown; St. Elmo City Hall and St. Elmo Foods; and St. Peter Post Office and Dollar General in Farina.
? The Ladies Ministries of First Pentecostal Church in Vandalia will hold a sale of Heavenly Handmade crafts, cakes, cookies, candles, special breads and fudge from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in the church's Educational Building.  They will also have three drawings for door prizes. All proceeds support the church's building fund.
? The Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Fayette and Effingham counties are holding a Cover Crop Field Day from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with registration at 8:30 a.m., at the Carriage House Event Center in Altamont. Lunch is provided, and after lunch, they will walk a cover crop field and soil pit at K.F. Farms, 2471 N. 200 St., Mason. Participants are asked to RSVP by this Thursday online at web.extension.illinois. edu/CEFI or by calling Jennifer Woodyard at 217-347-7773. The event will include four speakers and a question-and-answer period with a farmer panel.
? Soroptimist International of Vandalia invites all women to its business meeting at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse. All guests are welcome  to purchase lunch. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP with Janice Hejl at janice.hejl@gmail.com or 322-6538.

Friday, November 2

? Bingo is held at Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bingo begins at 7 p.m.
? Brownstown High School is hosting Beatdown in Brownstown IV, presented by Pro Wrestling Epic. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and wrestling begins at 7 p.m. Floor seats are $12 and bleachers are $10; all seat for ages 12 and under are $12.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.

Saturday, November 3

? Evans Public Library will hold a Dinosaur Story at 1 p.m. Children of all ages are invited to listen to stories and make a craft.
? The 38th annual Perry Biggs Memorial Fiddle Contest & Bluegrass Show will be held this Saturday at the Patoka Civic Center. The show opens at 5 p.m. with Brenda Cook of Sullivan, Mo., followed by the Worthington Family Bluegrass Band. The fiddlers begin at 6:15 p.m. Also performing will be Layne Mayfield of Vandalia and national open fiddle champion George Portz and His Friends of Bluegrass. A cajun music set will also be performed. Admission is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children. Full dinners, sandwiches and desserts will be served all evening.
? VFW Old Capitol Post 3862 is holding a fall costume party. DJ Jeff begins playing at 6 p.m., food available at 7 p.m. and costume judging is at 9:30 p.m. Prizes are: first, $100; second, $75; and third, $50.

Sunday, November 4

? The annual Fayette County Extension Foundation soup luncheon will be held from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Brownstown Elementary School cafeteria. Free-will donations are accepted for the meal, which includes chili or vegetable soup, hot dog, carrots and celery, homemade deserts and drinks.

Monday, November 5

? The Fayette County Health Department grief support group meets from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the FCHD office, 416 W. Edwards St., Vandalia.
? The Vandalia Women of the Moose meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? Fayette County Mothers of Preschoolers meets at 6:30 p.m. in the back room of the St. Elmo Public Library. Mothers of children ages newborn to kindergarten-age are invited. Snacks and child care is provided.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.

Tuesday, November 6

ELECTION DAY
? Polls are open from 6 a.m.-7 p.m. for the 2018 general election.
? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? The Fayette County Hospital Auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting at noon in the hospital conference room. Several items will be discussed. Members are urged to attend all meetings.

Wednesday, November 7

? The Greater Fayette County Chamber of Commerce meets at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse.

Thursday, November 8

? The United Methodist Men at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia will hold their annual fish fry from 4:30-7 p.m. at the church. Donations will be accepted. The proceeds go to the organization's Coats and Shoes Program for Fayette County.
