? This Thursday is the deadline to submit applications for Fayette County Caring & Sharing Christmas baskets. Applications can be dropped off at County Market, CEFS and Fayette County Health Department in Vandalia; First National Bank, St. Joseph's Food Pantry and Ramsey Elementary School in Ramsey; Brownstown Elementary School and Victory Lane in Brownstown; St. Elmo City Hall and St. Elmo Foods in St. Elmo; and St. Peter Post Office and Dollar General in Farina.
? Soroptimist International of Vandalia invites local women to join them for their program meeting at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse. This month, students in the CEO Program in local high schools will give on update on their work thus far and the program goals. All guests are welcome to purchase lunch. Friday, November 16

? The Vandalia Community High School Talent Show will be held at 7 p.m. in the high school gym. Admission if $2 for students and $3 for adults.
? Bingo is held at Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bingo begins at 7 p.m.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.
? The annual chili supper and Spirit Night sponsored by the St. Elmo/Brownstown cheerleaders are being held at St. Elmo High School. The chili supper is from 5-6:30 in the SEHS cafeteria. The cost is $6 per person. Spirit Night begins at 7 p.m. in the SEHS gym. Admission is $1 or one canned food item.

Saturday, November 17

? A craft fair to benefit the Fayette County Senior Citizens Center and Meals on Wheels will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center, 616 W. Jackson St., Vandalia. More than 15 vendors will participate. There is no admission charge and door prizes will be awarded.

Monday, September 19

? The Vandalia Women of the Moose meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? Fayette County Mothers of Preschoolers meets at 6:30 p.m. in the back room of the St. Elmo Public Library. Mothers of children ages newborn to kindergarten-age are invited. Snacks and child care is provided.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.
? The Fayette County Democratic Central Committee meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Democratic headquarters on West Orchard Street.

Tuesday, September 20

? The Christian Ladies Breakfast Club meets at 9:30 a.m. at Denny's. For more information, call Faye Watson at 267-8487
? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? An American Red Cross blood drive sponsored by the Vandalia Rotary Club will be held fom noon-6 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge. Food will be provided to all donors.
? The Vandalia Board of Education meets at 5 p.m. in the district's administration center.
? The Spools of Fun Quilt Club meets at 7 p.m. at FAYCO Enterprises on Sunset Drive in Vandalia.

Wednesday, November 21

? A Christian Community Coffee Clatch is held from 9-10:30 a.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia. It is open to all adults, with free coffee and pastries.
? Area schools will dismiss early for school improvement and will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday, November 22

THANKSGIVING

? Fayette County Habitat for Humanity is holding its 12th annual free community Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the American Legion Home in Vandalia. Reservations are not required. Deliveries will be made to shut-ins only.
