? The Evans Public Library's Homeschool group meets from 1-2 p.m. at the library. Anyone interested in joining the group should contact Shawna Sprague at 283-2824.

Friday, September 29

? Vandalia Community High School will celebrate homecoming. The homecoming parade begins at the high school at 2:30 p.m., goes west on Fillmore Street, north on Railroad Drive, east on Fletcher Street and south on Eighth Street back to the high school. The homecoming king and queen will be announced at halftime of the varsity football game, which starts at 6:30 p.m., and the homecoming dance follows the football game. Prior to the game, this year's inductees to the Vandals Hall of Fame will be inducted: Shelby Cearlock, Laura Hobbie, Matt Shroyer, Amanda Walton and Haley Wollerman.
? Evans Public Library will hold a Fantastic Friday at 4 p.m. Children up to age 10 are invited to listen to stories and make dream catchers. Registration is required; to register, call the library, 283-2824.
? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 will hold bingo at 7 p.m. at the Legion Home; doors open at 5:30 p.m.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.
? The Vandalia Community High School class of 1967 will hold a casual meet and greet at Ramada Inn, beginning at 7 p.m. Finger foods and soft drinks will be available.

Saturday, September 30

? Vandalia's Little Community Garden will hold its annual Harvest Festival from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church Parish Center, Seventh and St. Clair streets. It will feature garden goods, about 20 vendors, lunch and activities for children.
? The Fayette County Fair Craft and Vendor Fair and Wine-Tasting Event will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in Brownstown. It will feature more than 20 vendors, lunch by the St. James Hornets 4-H Club and P&P Concessions, and participating wineries Lasata Wines of Lawenceville and Castle Finn of Marshall. Admission is $5 at the gate, with children ages 10 and under admitted free. Proceeds benefit the Fayette County Fair Queen Pageants.
? The Vandalia Historical Society will hold "Wine and Ale with Abe," a wine and beer tasting, from noon-6 p.m. on the Vandalia Statehouse lawn. It will feature live music, artisans, bags tournament and vendors. Proceeds go to the Statehouse Window Restoration Fund. The $20 tasting fee includes 10 tasting tickets and a choice of a signature wine or pilsner glass. No advance tickets; pay at the door. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcomed and encouraged.
? The National Road Interpretive Center in Vandalia will hold a cemetery walk from 1-4 p.m. at the Old State Burial Ground at Second and Edwards streets in Vandalia. Free-will donations will be accepted.
? The Vandalia Alumni Foundation's All-School Reunion will be held from 5-11 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge. It includes a social hour from 5-6:30 p.m., dinner from 6:30-8 p.m., Distinguished Alumni Award presentations at 8 p.m. and visiting from 8:30-11 p.m. The cost is $25 per person. ? The annual Life Chain is from 2-3 p.m. at the intersection of Kennedy Boulevard and Gallatin Street.

Monday, October 2

? The Women of the Moose meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? Fayette County Mothers of Preschoolers meets at 6:30 p.m. in the back room of the St. Elmo Public Library. Mothers of children ages newborn to kindergarten-age are invited. Snacks and child care is provided.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.

Tuesday, October 3

? First National Bank of Vandalia, Ramsey, Patoka, Greenville and Mulberry Grove will hold a program aimed at protecting senior citizens from scams at 11:30 a.m. at the Golden Circle Nutrition Center in Ramsey.
? The Fayette County Hospital Auxiliary meets at noon at the hospital, with several important items to be discussed. Members are urged to attend.
? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.

Wednesday, October 4

? Bingo is held at the Vandalia Moose Lodge in Vandalia. It starts at 7 p.m., with Lightning at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, October 6

? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a Story Saturday at 10 a.m. Children of all ages are invited to listen to stories and make a craft.
? A horseshoe tournament to benefit the Fayette County Cancer Fund and Fear Nothing will be held at 3 p.m. at the residence of Eric and Sue Miller, two miles east of U.S. Route 51 on Woodyard Road. Trophies will be given, and the event will include food, a raffle and music; coolers may be taken.
