? The Fayette County Health Department is holding a flu clinic from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at St. Elmo City Hall. Medicare, state workers and some insurance will be accepted at all clinics; Medicaid only at the health department. Private pay is $40, and high-dose shots are $75.
? The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 10:30 a.m. at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia. Members should plan to pay dues at this meeting. All retired teachers are invited to attend. For more information, contact Diane Curll at 283-0492.
? Evans Public Library's Homeschool Group will meet from 1-2 p.m. at the library. Anyone interested in joining the group should contact Shawna Sprague at the library, 282-2824.
? St. James Lutheran Church, 727 W. Gallatin St. in Vandalia, will hold its annual chili supper from 4-7 p.m. at the church. The menu includes chili, hot dog or peanut butter sandwich, dessert and drinks. The cost is $6 per person.
? The Vandalia Lions Club will hold its annual Halloween Parade at 7 p.m. The parade begins at 7 p.m. at Seventh and Gallatin streets, and travels east on Gallatin Street to Third Street.
? The Vandalia Swimming Pool staff will hold its annual haunted house at the former Washington School building in the 300 block of South Eighth Street, after the Halloween parade until 10:30 p.m. Admission is $6 per person.

? The Fayette County Health Department is holding a special flu clinic for children and parents only, by appointment only, at the health department, 416 W. Edwards St., Vandalia. To schedule an appointment, call 283-1044.
? Evans Public Library will hold a Fantastic Friday at  4 p.m. Children up to 10 years of age are invited to listen to stories and decorate a pumpkin. Registration is required; to register, call the library, 282-2824.
? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 will not hold bingo this Friday evening; it will resume on Friday, Nov. 3.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.

? Downtown Trick-or-Treating will be held in downtown Vandalia from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. It will start with a story time at Evans Public Library at 10 a.m.; the library is also giving out Trick or Treat bags. All local businesses are welcome to set up downtown. For more information, contact Therese Tate at 780-5373.
? Trick or treat night in Vandalia, 6-8 p.m., for children up through sixth-grade age.
? Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care is holding safe trick-or-treating from 6-8 p.m.
? Bethel Baptist Church will hold Trunk or Treat from 6-8 p.m. in the parking lot of County Market on Veterans Avenue in Vandalia. For more information, call 326-7451.
? Vandalia Back Pain Center and Fayette County Real Estate will hold Trunk or Treat from 6-8 p.m. in the parking lot at 427 W. Orchard St., Vandalia. It will include free spinal screenings and face-painting.

Monday, October 30

? A Medicare D open enrollment event will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus, 2310 W. Fillmore St., hosted by Midland Area Agency on Aging, Meals on Wheels, SWAN Information and Assistance, ECCOA-Senior Services of Fayette County and Heartland Human Services. Medicare D open enrollment is from Oct. 15-Dec. 7. Those attending are to take their Medicare cards and a photo ID, as well as lists of their medications.

Tuesday, October 31

? State Farm Insurance agent Clint Simpson will hold a flag-raising ceremony and ribbon-cutting at his new location, 800 W. Randolph St., Vandalia. Invited are members of the American Legion and VFW, city and county law enforcement officers, local firefighters, area veterans and the general public.

Friday, Nov. 3

? Evans Public Library's Teen Advisory Board will meet at the library at 4 p.m. Anyone interested in joining the board should contact Shawna Sprague at the library.
? A fish fry fundaiser for Vandalia Community High School's post-prom will be held from 4-7 p.m. at Vandalia Junior High School. The cost for the all-you-can-eat meal prepared by Country Rhodes is $11 for adults and carry-outs, and $6 for children. The menu includes fish, chicken strips, mini-shrimp, steak fries, potato salad, cole slaw, apple sauce and baked beans. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
? Brownstown Junior-Senior High will hold "Beatdown in Brownstown," a Pro Wrestling Epic event in the high school gym. Tickets are $12 for floor seats, $10 for bleacher seats and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Tickets are available at the high school office and will be sold at the door.

Saturday, November 4

? A 5K/Walk-4-Life will be held at Deken Park in St. Elmo as a fundraiser for Lighthouse Pregnancy and Health Services in Vandalia. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and a pre-event rally featuring Luke Hohlt, South Central Illinois director of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is at 8:30 p.m. The 5K run starts at 9 a.m., and the two-mile walk starts at 9:05 p.m. The fees are $30 for adults and $20 for children, with T-shirts available by chance after preregistration. Online registration is available at www.lighthousepregnancy.org or on its Facebook page. Sponsor forms are available at Lighthouse Pregnancy and Health Services, 1703 W. Fletcher St., Vandalia.
? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a dinosaur story time at 10 a.m. at the library. Children of all ages are invited to listen to stories and make a craft.
