Friday, Nov. 3

? Evans Public Library's Teen Advisory Board will meet at the library at 4 p.m. Anyone interested in joining the board should contact Shawna Sprague at the library.
? A fish fry fundaiser for Vandalia Community High School's post-prom will be held from 4-7 p.m. at Vandalia Junior High School. The cost for the all-you-can-eat meal prepared by Country Rhodes is $11 for adults and carry-outs, and $6 for children. The menu includes fish, chicken strips, mini-shrimp, steak fries, potato salad, cole slaw, apple sauce and baked beans. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
? Vandalia Elementary School will hold its annual Fall Fun Fest from 5-7:30 p.m. It includes a chili supper with hot dogs and peanut butter sandwiches at a cost of $5 for adults and $3 for children. The carnival will include games, bounce house, bounce slide, cake walk, snacks and face painting; carnival tickets are 25 cents each. All children must be accompanies by an adult.
? Brownstown Junior-Senior High will hold "Beatdown in Brownstown," a Pro Wrestling Epic event in the high school gym. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and wrestling begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 for floor seats, $10 for bleacher seats and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Tickets are available at the high school office and will be sold at the door.
? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 will hold bingo at 7 p.m. at the Legion Home; doors open at 5:30 p.m.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.

Saturday, November 4

? A 5K/Walk-4-Life will be held at Deken Park in St. Elmo as a fundraiser for Lighthouse Pregnancy and Health Services in Vandalia. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and a pre-event rally featuring Luke Hohlt, South Central Illinois director of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is at 8:30 p.m. The 5K run starts at 9 a.m., and the two-mile walk starts at 9:05 p.m. The fees are $30 for adults and $20 for children, with T-shirts available by chance after preregistration. Online registration is available at www.lighthousepregnancy.org or on its Facebook page. Sponsor forms are available at Lighthouse Pregnancy and Health Services, 1703 W. Fletcher St., Vandalia.
? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a dinosaur story time at 10 a.m. at the library. Children of all ages are invited to listen to stories and make a craft.
? The New Testament of Revelation will be taught from 1-3:30 p.m. every Saturday through Nov. 25, sponsored by the Rehoboth Baptist Church Association. The course is being led by Dr. Olen Evans of First Baptist Church of Brownstown. For more information, call 780-1857 or 780-0842.
? The 37th annual George Portz's Perry Biggs Memorial Fiddle Contest and Bluegrass Show is being held at the Patoka Civic Center, beginning at 5 p.m. It will feature bluegrass, cajun and country music, and the Midwest's most-popular fiddlers' contest featuring the area's top fiddlers. Sandwiches and dinners will be served all evening. Perfomers will include George Portz and His Friends of Bluegrass, Lane Mayfield of Vandalia, Brenda Cook of Sullivan, Mo., and the Worthington Family bluegrass band. Admission is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children.
? Vandalia Back Pain Center will hold a Ladies Night from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 427 W. Orchard St., Suite B. It will include manicures, shoulder rubs, craft activities, drinks and hors d'oeuvres, and free spinal screenings. Call 283-0029 for more information.

Sunday, November 5

? "The Chosen Ones" will be in concert at 6 p.m. at First Church of Christ, 405 N. Maple St., Mulberry Grove. The public is invited. A love offering will be taken.

Monday, November 6

? Fayette County Mothers of Preschoolers meets at 6:30 p.m. in the back room of the St. Elmo Public Library. Mothers of children ages newborn to kindergarten-age are invited. Snacks and child care is provided.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.

Tuesday, November 7

? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? The Fayette County Hospital Auxilary will meet at noon in the hospital conference room. This being an important meeting, all members are asked to attend.
? The Fayette County Health Department's Hospice grief support group meets from 6-7 p.m. at the health department, 416 W. Edwards St., Vandalia. For more information, call 283-7262.
? The Fayette County Board meets at 7 p.m. in the large courtroom at the Fayette County Courthouse in Vandalia.

Wednesday, November 8

? The Regional Office of Education No. 3 Learning Express Program will hold a fall-themed book walk at 10 a.m. at the Ramsey Public Library. This is a free event open to the community and will include a story time, simple craft activity, and a book and treat to take home.
? Bingo is held at the Vandalia Moose Lodge in Vandalia. It starts at 7 p.m., with Lightning at 5:30 p.m.

Thursday, November 9

? Evans Public Library's Homeschool Group meets from 1-2  p.m. at the library. Anyone interested in joining the group should contact Shawna Sprague at the library, 283-2824.
? The Vandalia Park District Board of Commissioners meets at 4:30 p.m. in the Lincoln Room at Evans Public Library.
? The United Methodist Men will hold their annual fish fry from 4:30-7 p.m. in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church. The proceeds are used to purchase coats and shoes for needy children in the area at Christmastime.
? The Fayette County Cancer Fund will have a public meeting at 7 p.m. in the Fayette County Hospital conference room.

Friday, November 10

? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 will hold bingo at 7 p.m. at the Legion Home; doors open at 5:30 p.m.
? Olde Tyme Christmas is being held in downtown Vandalia. It begins at 5 p.m. with the lighting of the community Christmas tree at Seventh and Gallatin streets, followed by  Christmas carols and the Vandalia Rotary Club's Christmas parade. It also includes more than 20 vendors, Santa and Mrs. Claus in the former Copper Penny on Fourth Street, Soroptimist cookie walk at the Fifth Street entrace of city hall, mobile carrilon, live reindeer, Christmas characters, and Vandalia Fire Department open house.
? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a story time at 6 p.m. during Olde Tyme Christmas in downtown Vandalia; doors open at 5:30 p.m. Children of all ages are invited.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.

Saturday, November 11

VETERANS DAY
? Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 726 W. Fillmore St. in Vandalia, will hold an all-you-can-eat hot cakes and sausage breakfast from 7 a.m.-noon in the parish hall (at Eighth Street entrance). The cost is $5 per person. A country store will be set up.

Sunday, November 12

? Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St. in Vandalia, will hold a special Veterans Day service. The public is invited to attend. Former Northside pastor and veterans Carl Rhodes will deliver the message. A ceremonial flag-raising will be held at the newly built memorial rock garden in front of the church.
