Andy Lester joins Schaal & Associates

Schaal & Associates Real Estate announced this week that Andy Lester of Vandalia has joined its sales firm as a broker asssociate.

Lester recently completed the Illinois Real Estate coursework and has passed the state exam.
He will specialize in residential, commercial and agriculture properties in Bond, Fayette and Marion counties.
“We are thrilled to have Andy join our team,” said Keith and Kathryn Schaal, managing broker/owners of Schaal & Associates Real Estate. “It is such a plus having Andy bring his knowledge and experience of the construction industry into today’s real estate market.”
Lester has been working in the construction industry for more than 35 years. He is married to Jenny and they have three daughters: Becca, Deanna and Jena.
“I’m excited to be joining Schaal and Associates Real Estate,” Lester said. “I love working with people and am looking forward to assisting buyers and sellers with all their real estate needs.”

Ribbon-cuttings set for next week

Two ribbon-cutting ceremonies will be held next week by the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce.
The first is for the new Huddle House restaurant. It will be held at noon next Thursday, Jan. 23, at 7 Mattes Ave., adjacent to the Holiday Inn Express.
The second is for the new location of Words, Wicks and Wood in downtown Vandalia. It will be held at noon on Friday, Jan. 24. The bookstore is moving to 529 W. Gallatin St., across the street from its former location.

Chamber banquet is next Thursday

The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce will hold its 100th anniversary banquet next Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
The event gets underway with a social hour 5:30-6:30 p.m., followed by the dinner at 7:30 p.m. This year’s program includes a murder mystery event, as well as the presentation of the chamber’s annual Abe Awards. Those awards will recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the community through volunteer activities or their work with civic groups.

Scholarship info available at FNB

The First National Bank Trust Department is now accepting applications for several scholarships that are available to area students. All applications must be postmarked no later than April 1.
Also available through the First National Bank is an interest-free loan funded by the Ella McKee Foundation. It is available to Fayette County students.

Rotary blood drive is next Tuesday

A blood drive, sponsored by the Vandalia Rotary Club in cooperation with the American Red Cross, will be held next Tuesday from noon to 6 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge, 328 S. Third St.
