Brownstown-Sefton News

Critters Having Company
The past few days, two of the “neighbor kids” from the longhorn pasture across the way have been visiting the Homestead bunch and enjoying nibbling on the green grass.
The other barnyard critters, Madricka, and her baby burro, Buckwheat, and  Lady, the pretty senior mini-horse, watch the strangers, but they do not let the visitors interrupt their meals or their naps in the sunshine.
Only Katie, Bill’s black lab/blue heeler guard dog, gets excited. She barks, jumps up and down in her pen and then sits down quietly in her chair, content to watch the activities of the Homestead human inhabitants duo, namely, Bill and Panzi.

Sefton Unit HCE ‘Golden Girls’
The Sefton Unit HCE “Golden Girls” once again donned their show biz  togs and visited the Brookstone Estates ladies, accompanied by the well-known, popular pianist, Bette Stolte. The HCE gals appeared as Calendar Girls, representing the 12 months of the year in appropriate costume for the season/holiday as Stolte played the appropriate music on the piano. Flo Allen led the singing. The object of the presentation was for the ladies to guess which season/month was being represented. Panzi Blackwell read verses giving hints about the names of the months.
Every month was named correctly (with Arvella leading in the points) and many of the ladies sang along with the music.
Those participating were: Connie Greene (bundled up in warm clothes for winter winds) as January; Carol Behrends (looking lovely as a pretty Valentine, and presenting roses to the ladies); Carol Oldham (in her Irish green outfit); Elizabeth Kasten twirling a pretty umbrella for April showers;
LaVonne Kramer looking like spring itself with a basket of May flowers; Phyllis Bruno, as a blushing June bride; DeeDee Diveley with an array of patriotic red, white and blue items in which was tucked a (make-believe) firecracker; Carolyn Grames was the August gardener, dressed accordingly and with the proper gardening tools; Lois Jackson was Miss September with school books and slate; DeeDee Diveley did double duty, appearing again with a turkey on a platter; Lois Jackson also doing double duty, as she again appeared for December with Christmas-theme decorations.
The event drew to a close with visiting and eating homemade Sefton HCE cookies.
