Our Critter Neighbors, “Straight” & “Flash”
“Straight” and “Flash” are the two beautiful horses that live in the pasture along our lane and yard, along with our neighbor’s longhorn cattle. We enjoy watching them and enjoy their visits much.
They seem happy and are high-spirited much of the time. They sometimes act like mischievous boys, as they will suddenly chase the cows for a few minutes, as if they talked about it and said, “Let’s do it!”
As the cows all have the signature long horns, but don’t take defensive actions,  they evidently don’t take the horses seriously. They appear to just tolerate them as they run a short distance, then go back to their grazing and just ignore the “boys.”
Saturday, they were “feeling their oats,” as they playfully acted like they were fighting (like the wild stallions do in the movies).
They would rare up on their hind legs and waved their front hooves at each other.
However, they didn’t even come close to touching one another. Then they would kick up their back feet and just run and jump around.
It was a pleasure to watch them as they played together. The cows were grazing and paid no attention to their antics. Straight and Flash lead carefree lives and are pals.

Randy Curell is his Name, Technology is his game…
… at least he made it seem like a game, as he (magically) took a video off my camera and e-mailed it me so I could forward it on to the newspapers.
(My “computer angel,” Regina Richards, has done this for me before, but she was unavailable this week.)
There are no easy-to-read-and-understand instruction books (with pictures) for senior adults with computers. Of course, the initial problem was with the camera, which somehow slipped into video mode as I snapped the picture. (The camera should give a warning ‘beep” when the mode changes.)
Anyway, thanks to Randy (whose mother was a teacher) and to the Brownstown Schools (from which he graduated), and again, to Randy, who was so courteous and kind to this “senior.”
