‘Cow Eyes’ Being Made in the Homestead Pasture
One of the  heifer youngsters, Minny, and neighbor Scott’s bull (which we now call “Romeo”) are making cow eyes at each other, but unfortunately (for them) they are separated by the lane and two electric fences. They were also communicating verbally with forlorn-sounding calls.
There is a history concerning Romeo. When he was younger, just emerging from adolescence, Bill was going to buy him from Scott, so Scott brought him across the lane to our pasture, and he was introduced to the Homestead cow girls when Minny was just a kid.
He jumped the fence, crossed the lane and went back to his home pasture, not interested in the girls then.
Now Minny is all grown up, unattached and ready for a serious relationship.
We believe, however, that the arrangement wouldn’t work, because Romeo would want to commute back and forth across the lane, which could not be allowed.
At presen,t he is not so enamored that he is willing to go through high tensile wire … and neither is Minny.
We think they may be influenced by the romantic season of Valentine’s Day.
