Brownstown firefighters begin battling a Thursday afternoon blaze that caused major damage to the home of Delbert Frailey in the Four Mile area. Firefighters from Vandalia, St. Elmo and St. Peter provided mutual aid assistance for the fire, and they were at the scene for about four hours. A cause of the fire has not been determined, but fire officials suspect a gas leak. Firefighters drafted water from a nearby pond as part of their efforts to extinguish the fire. Brownstown firefighters were called late Friday afternoon for a fire at the home of Marty Evans north of the village.
