September is library card signup month

A library card grants access to books, e-books, computers, homework help, assistance with resumés and job searches, music, movies and more. In September, Evans Public Library will be waiving all lost card replacement fees, so it is a perfect time to update library cards.
The library will also be giving out gift bags to the first 25 people who sign up for a new card.

Crop survey, dinner are next Thursday

The Fayette County Farm Bureau's marketing committee will hold its annual crop survey next Thursday. Anyone interested in helping with the survey should call 3276.
The annual steak dinner cookout is at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday in the basement of the Farm Bureau building, 1125 N. Sunset Drive. Tickets, $5 each, are available at the Farm Bureau office.
Kim Hosapple, grain department manager from South Central FS, will be the speaker at the dinner.

Band Trivia Night is Sept. 14

The third annual Vandalia Band Parents Trivia Night and silent auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, in the Vandalia Junior High School gym.
The cost for the trivia contest is $15 per person or $120 for an eight-person team in advance, or $17 per person or $135 for an eight-person team the night of the event. A cash prize of $500 will be awarded.
Prizes will be awarded to the table with the best theme and for the best dessert.

New VCHS yearbooks have arrived

Copies of the 2013 Vandalois, the Vandalia Community High School yearbook, have arrived and will be handed out next week.
The yearbooks will be available between 11:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. in the VCHS cafeteria.

Vandalia Alumni will hold golf outing

The fourth annual Vandalia Alumni and Friends golf outing will be held at Vandalia Country and Golf Club, with tee times available on either Friday afternoon, Sept. 20, or Saturday morning, Sept. 21.
The 18-hole scramble tournament is for four-person teams, and prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of play each day.
Lunch will be provided before play on Friday and after play on Saturday.
The entry fee is $50 per person, or $200 per team. Teams may sponsor a hole for a business for an additional $25, and businesses may sponsor a hole for $25.

Vandalia All-School Reunion is Sept. 21

The Vandalia All-School Reunion will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the American Legion Home in Vandalia.
The reunion will include a social hour with hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar from 5-6:30 p.m., dinner from 6:30-8 p.m., and dancing with live music from 8:30-10:30 p.m.
All Vandalia Community High School alumni, as well as the general public, are invited. The cost is $25 per person. Checks are to be made payable to: VAF Alumni Banquet.
