The Vandalia boys track and field team scored 38 points and placed sixth out of 12 teams at the South Central Conference meet Tuesday night at Pana.
The host Panthers won the conference title with 108 points, outdistancing runner-up Piasa Southwestern with 104 and third-place Litchfield with 98. Finishing just in front of the Vandals were Staunton with 46 and Carlinville with 40.
The Vandals were led by a pair of second-place finishes by Angel Osorio in the high jump and Drew Bell in the 1,600-meter run, and Will Cowger placed third in the shot put.
One new school record was set when freshman Quenten Austin broke his own 110-meter high hurdle record by .15 second as he clocked 16.65.
Placing second for the Vandals were: Osorio in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 10 inches and Drew Bell in the 1,600-meter run in 4:31.59.
Finishing third was Cowger in the shot put, with a throw of 42 feet, 1 inch.
Fourth place finishes included: Osorio in the 200-meter dash in 24.02; Andy Koonce in the 400-meter dash in 54:09; and the 4x200-meter relay team of Cody McGee, Mitch Whightsil, Michael Galletto and Osorio in 1:40.47.
And sixth-place finishers were: Drew Stewart in the shot put with 39 feet, 4 ½ inches; Stewart in the discus with a throw of 120 feet, 4 inches; Quenten Austin in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.65 (a new school record); and the 4x400-relay of Quinn Phillips, Clint Devall, Drew Bell and Andy Koonce in 3:52.42.
The next meet for the boys is Thursday at Hillsboro. Sectional competition is next Friday, May 22, at Robinson.
