In a game in which Vandalia and East Alton-Wood River evenly exchanged touchdowns, it was two field goal attempts that made the difference.
The first attempt, made by the Oilers’ Devin Spurlock from about 36 yards out, bounced off of the bottom crossbar of the goal post, hit the left crossbar and fell straight down in front of the post.
The second, by Vandalia’s Daniel Bell from 26 yards out, sailed through the center of the crossbars with about 4 seconds left in the game to give the Vandals a 24-21 win.
