Brownstown/St. Elmo senior Jacob Behrends wasn't himself on Thursday night.
The senior pitcher was better than he's ever been.
Behrends shocked Patoka with 22 strikeouts in the title game of the Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament, surrending just two hits in leading the the Bombers to a 3-0 victory.
The 22 punchouts set the program record, which was 19.
Behrends struck out the final 10 batters of the game, and also had a streak of eight straight from the second to the fourth inning. He struck out four in the second inning after a runner reached base on a passed ball on the third strike.
Patoka senior Johnnie Clift was also impressive, taking the tough-luck loss after striking out 13 and allowing just six hits.
More information about this game will be published in the Oct. 3 edition of The Leader-Union.
