Ryan Bauer tendered his letter of resignation as Mulberry Grove High School boys basketball coach and athletic director Monday night so that he can concentrate on his new duties as MGHS principal.
"With the time it takes to coach basketball anymore, it's just better for myself, the district and my family as well," said Bauer, an MGHS alum who enjoyed a three-year stint as the head coach at his alma mater.
Bauer served eight years as longtime Aces coach Tom Jackson's assistant prior to taking over for his mentor in 2006.
He compiled a 34-51 record during his career at the school. Bauer also enjoyed a successful playing career at MGHS, as the 1994 grad reached the 1,000-point plateau.
His longtime involvement with the program made Bauer's decision a difficult one.
"It's not something I was ready to give up, but the time was just right," Bauer said. "It's been 11 years (coaching the Aces) and I've enjoyed it.
"I've enjoyed working with the kids, and I'm going to miss it quite a bit."
Bauer's former jobs have already been posted, and he indicated the positions will likely be filled externally.
Bauer will be taking over principal duties from Michael Gauch, who is replacing Greg Irwin as superintendent. Irwin has taken an administrative job in another district.
