Area women attend district LWML event

Women from several Fayette County churches recently attended the 67th annual meeting of the Central Illinois District of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League in Rock Island.
The theme for the convention was "Come to the Water," based on John 4:4.
About 250 delegates, members and guests participated in the event, which was hosted by Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Island.
Guest speaker for the convention was Julia Wehrenberg of Normal. She serves in South Africa with the Globally Engaged in Outreach program, which is operated through the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod World Missions.
LWML is the official women's auxiliary of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The organization financially supports global mission projects through its mite offerings. The Central Illinois District mite goal for 2012-2013 is $75,000.
Women who attended the convention also took part in the "Gifts from the Heart Ingathering," by bringing baby toiletries and clothing, which were given to Pregnancy Resources in Moline,  or by bringing food for the Cristo Rey (Christ the King) Hispanic Lutheran Church food pantry in East Moline.
Churches from this area participating in the convention were Immanuel Lutheran and St. Paul Lutheran of Altamont, St. Peter Lutheran and Immanuel Lutheran of Augsburg, and Holy Cross Lutheran of Vandalia.
Next year's convention will be held on April 27 in Decatur.
