Area roundup: BSE girls win, Patoka boys cruise

BROWNSTOWN — With three and a half minutes remaining in Monday's girls basketball game, the Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers had a comfortable double-digit lead.
Three minutes later, the game was on the line.
But Gabi Moore made two late free throws, and the Lady Bombers held on for a 45-38 win over Altamont.
Moore's free throws proved big down the stretch.
"She stepped up and made her free throws at the end, so I'm really proud of Gabi," Pruett said.
The Bombers had a 12-point lead late in the game, only to see Altamont rally.
In the end, the hosts held on.
"This is a great win for us," Pruett said. "It's always great to beat our rivals."
Audriana Pruett scored 12 points for BSE, making four three-pointers. Morgan Brown scored nine, Moore had eight, Kyrstyn Fitch added seven and Emily Bone chipped in five.
The Bombers improved to 10-8 on the season. The team recently took fifth place at the Dieterich Tournament.
"We're starting to get healthy," Pruett said. "Audriana is getting healthier and getting back up to game speed. And we've been in almost every game we've played in. These girls are getting there. They just have to put together four quarters every night."
A close first half ended with the hosts up, 21-20.  The Lady Indians struggled with turnovers in the third period, and the Bombers pulled away. Pruett hit a three-pointer late in the period, and BSE had a 33-24 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Altamont suffered through some cold shooting, and BSE's lead slowly grew bigger and bigger.
Fitch and Brown hit three-pointers in the fourth quarter, and BSE was up, 39-26, with 3:33 left in the game. The lead reached 12 at 40-28 a few seconds later.
But Altamont made one last push. The Indians went on a 10-1 run, cutting BSE's lead to 41-38 with 30 seconds remaining.
Altamont was unable to get a turnover and had to foul. Moore then stepped to the line and calmly sank both clutch free throws for a 43-38 lead.
The Indians then missed two shots and a layup by Fitch just before the buzzer accounted for the final score.
"They started making their shots and we were taking shots too quickly," Pruett said of Altamont's comeback. "We let them back in the game. But in the end, we won. They did good."
Keidron Duckwitz scored 12 points for Altamont. BSE is at Christ Our Rock on Friday, while South Central will host Altamont on Thursday night.
