NTC Baseball Tournament
Both South Central and Brownstown/St. Elmo were defeated in semifinal play last Wednesday night, setting up a third place showdown. South Central was run-ruled, 11-1, in five innings versus Altamont. BSE was also run-ruled, falling to St. Anthony, 12-2, in six.
The third-place game took 13 innings, as South Central was able to edge out a 4-3 victory. Dre Hill came in clutch with a bases-loaded RBI bunt to give the Cougars the walk-off victory.

St. Elmo/Brownstown Volleyball
The St. Elmo/Brownstown Volleyball team picked up its 15th win of the season last Thursday night, defeating Mulberry Grove, 25-15, 25-12. The win also improved its Egyptian-Illini Conference record to a perfect 5-0.
Leading the winning effort was Gabbi Moore, who finished with a team-high nine kills, along with one assist, one ace and five digs.
Sarah Maxey finished with two kills, a team-high 18 assists,  six aces and five digs, Brandi Howard had eight kills and one block, and Emily Bone had four kills, two aces, one dig and one block.  Also scoring was Cecilia Cappellini, who finished with three assists, two aces and two digs.
The Lady Eagles continued their strong play Friday, defeating National Trail Conference foe Dieterich, 25-16, 25-19, to push their NTC record to 4-3.
Brandi Howard finished with five kills and two digs, Emily Bone had five kills, two aces, seven digs and one block, and Madison Carson had one kills, two aces and seven digs.
Also scoring were Sarah Maxey, who had a team-high 13 assists, two aces and five digs; Gabbi Moore, who had two kills,  two aces and six digs; and Tessa Philpot, who had one kill and four digs.

VCHS Tennis

The Lady Vandals traveled to Greenville for the South Central Conference Tournament on Saturday.
Hannah Blythe picked up her third-consecutive singles title, defeating Roxana's A. Meyers, 6-0, 6-0, in the quarterfinals, Greenville's Anna Barber, 6-0, 6-1, in the semifinals and Roxana's Sydnee Owsley, 6-1,6-2, in the finals.
In other Vandal action, Kiersten Dossett fell to Owsley in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-0. The doubles team of Laura Hedgpeth and Stacey Hudson fell to Roxana's Milazzo and Kreutztager, 6-0, 6-0.  Lexie Stuckwisch and Cassidy Jones also lost their doubles match, 6-0, 6-0.
Roxana won the tournament, finishing second in singles and double play. Vandalia will travel to Effingham this Friday for a sectional meet, where Blythe will look to continue her impressive play as she closes out her senior season.

VCHS Golf

Vandalia's Scotty Shulman participated in the class 1A sectional at Union County Country Club in Anna Monday afternoon. He failed to medal, shooting an 88.
Robinson senior Tom Goodman took first in individual play, shooting a 72. Breese took first overall, with the team shooting a 328.

JV Football

Vandalia's junior varsity Vandals continued its perfect season with a dominant 54-0 win at Piasa (Southwestern) Monday afternoon.
The now 7-0 Vandals were led by Trevor Smalls, who finished with three touchdowns, one passing and two rushing, along with a successful two-point conversion.
Also scoring rushing touchdowns were Devon Little, Tanner Swain, Blake Morrison and Blake Barth. Logan Sullens caught the lone touchdown pass and also recorded a safety.
 The JV squad will wrap up its season next Monday, traveling to take on Pana, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.

Freshman Football

The Vandalia freshman football team improved to 3-0 last Thursday evening, trouncing Greenville, 64-6.
Devon Little led the way with four touchdowns–two receiving, a kickoff return and an interception return.
Trevor Small's led the passing attack with 105 yards for two touchdowns, along with a rushing score. Brendon Boley and Tanner Swain also added a rushing touchdown.
The undefeated squad will take on Pana next Thursday at 6 p.m. to close out the season.
