Area Prep Roundup (March 21)

The St. Elmo softball team fell in both games at Saturday’s Fairfield Tournament.

The Lady Eagles lost to Wayne City, 7-3, and Fairfield, 16-0.

Against Wayne City, senior Megan Maxey had an RBI triple and a run scored, while freshman Sarah Maxey and junior Danie Austin each crossed the plate in a three-run third inning.

Against Fairfield, St. Elmo (0-2) got a triple from Austin and a single from Megan Maxey.

Last Thursday, Mulberry Grove lost its season-opener to Sandoval, 11-1.

Kyle Klawitter paced the offense with a 2-for-2 day, and Kaiah Miller was 1-for-3, with a tripe and a run. Miller scored on an RBI single from Derek Childress in the fifth.

Childress took the loss, striking out six over six innings of work.
