South Central Junior High Softball
The South Central Junior High softball team defeated St. Elmo in three innings Thursday afternoon, 18-0.
Laney Webster was nearly perfect, allowing no hits and one HBP while striking out eight.

The Lady Cougars improved to 3-1 with a 9-5 win over Altamont Monday afternoon.
Sydney Garrett went the distance, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out 17.

Vandalia Golf
The VCHS golf team kicked off its season last Wednesday at Staunton, finishing 0-3 behind Alton Marquette (157), Staunton (199) and Southwestern (205) with a team score of 214.
Scott Shulman led the way with a 45. Levi Cox finished with a 55; Alec Schroeder finished with a 56; and Nathaniel Weaver finished with a 58 to round out the action.
The Vandals earned their first win of the season Monday afternoon, defeating South Central conference foe Pana, 188-198. Shulman led the way, medaling with a 41. Other scores were: Weaver who finished with a 46; Bryce Dunn with a 49; and Cox with a 52.
VCHS Tennis
The Lady Vandals tennis team opened the 2016 campaign with Roxana at East Alton/Wood-River.
The young Vandal team got swept in singles and doubles, with No. 1 singles player Cassidy Jones taking three games in a two-set loss to Sydney Owsley. New comer Allysin Ward at the No. 6 singles position, fought hard and picked up a couple of games in her loss.

In doubles, Hudson and Hedgpeth defeated over Amber Rezinas and Valorie Hoover. Jones and Beckman also picked up a win in doubles play.
