South Central Softball
The Lady Cougars improved to  2-2 Saturday in game one of the Mulberry Grove Tournament, topping the tourney hosts, 13-9.
Abby King led the way on the mound and at the plate, as she pitched a complete game, allowing just four earned runs, allowing 8 hits and three walks while striking out three. King also went 3-for-5 at the plate, falling a double short of the cycle, collecting two RBI’s in the process.
Alannah Sigrist also had a productive day at the plate, collecting three RBI’s on one hit and one sacrifice bunt.

The Lady Cougars could not carry the momentum at the Mulberry Grove Tourmanent after a game-one win over the hosts, as they fell to Mater Dei in the next game, 19-1.

SEB Softball
The Lady Eagles picked up their first win of the season at the Martinsville Tournament Saturday, topping the hosts, 18-10. Tessa Philpot picked up the win for SEB, throwing a complete game and allowing six earned runs on 11 hits and two walks, while striking out five.
At the plate, Morgan Brown dominated, going 4-for-6 as she hit for the cycle, collecting six RBI’s in the process. Makenzie Parkinson also had a big day at the plate, as she collected five hits in six at bats, scoring four times and recording two RBI’s.
“It was very good to get in the win column. We played pretty well – we still need to shore some things up defensively, but I am very pleased with our effort, and we continue to improve every game,” SEB head coach Thomas Fredrigon said.

Shortly after collecting their first win of the season, the Lady Eagles ran into stiff competition, as they fell to Aldon-Hebron, 18-0, at the Martinsville Tournament. After giving up six first-inning runs, SEB could not recover, as they only collected four hits in the five-inning contest.

Vandalia Softball
The Vandalia softball team fell painfully short of its first win Friday evening, as they fell to Carlinville, 3-1. Kaitlyn Mills pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs on just three hits and one walk, while striking out one.
Despite getting runners on first and second with one out in the seventh, the Lady Vandals could not capitalize.

The Lady Vandals hosted a tournament Saturday afternoon, but were unable to take advantage of the home field, as they dropped all three games. In game one, the Lady Vandals fell short against Teutopolis, 9-5. In game two, Mt. Vernon proved to be way more than the young Vandal squad could handle, as they fell, 21-4. And in game three of action; Vandalia was outmatched again, falling to Gillespie, 21-1.

South Central Baseball
The Cougars improved to 3-1 on the season Saturday afternoon, as they pulled away late to top Westminster Christian, 3-2. Ryan Matheny came in for relief of Gavin Ratermann, going on to secure the win with two scoreless innings of work.
Ratermann delivered the walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.

Vandalia Baseball
The Vandals improved to 3-2 Friday, as they defeated conference foe Carlinville, 13-5. Richie Well toed the rubber, picking up his second win of the season, going five innings and allowing three earned runs on nine hits and three walks, while striking out six.
Nathan Casey and Tucker Willms led the way at the plate, each collecting three RBI’s.

The Vandals kept their win streak going early Saturday, as they defeated Cumberland, 16-2, in game one of tournament action at Effingham St. Anthony.
Kelly Jones picked up his first win of the season, pitching a complete game, allowing two earned runs on four hits and no walks, while striking out six.
At the plate, there were a variety of standout performances. Zimmerman collected a team-high four hits in five at bats, collecting four runs and two RBI’s. Well finished 2-for-3 at the plate, with one run scored and a team-high four knocked in. Casey stood out as well, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and three knocked in.

In game-two of tourney action Saturday, Vandalia fell victim to Effingham St. Anthony, 12-1. Well collected the sole RBI, as Schroeder picked up the loss, going two innings and allowing 12 runs, five earned.

The Vandals improved to 6-3 Tuesday evening, as freshman Slater started his first varisty game, picking up the win as he went five innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks, while collecting one strikeout. McNary relieved Slater with two scoreless innings of work. Jones collected a team-high two RBI’s, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

BSE Baseball
The Bombers improved to 2-5 in game one of a Martinsville Round Robin Saturday afternoon, as they defeated the hosts, 10-1. Lewis Brown picked up the win, pitching six innings, allowing just one run on three hits and four walks, while striking out 10. At the plate, Cole Horner had a huge day, collecting two solo home runs to go along with a  double. Brown also had a big day at the plate, collecting a team-high three RBI’s.

The Bombers collected their second win of the day Saturday, as they defeated Aldon-Hebron, 15-2. Noah Flowers picked up the win in the five-inning contest, going the distance, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks, while striking out 10. At the plate, Brown collected two home runs for three RBI’s, while Horner picked up his third home run of Saturday, knocking in three as well.

The Bombers fell to 3-6 Tuesday evening, as they fell to Effingham St. Anthony, 5-3. Feezel picked up the loss, tossing five innings and allowing five runs on three hits and five walks, while striking out eight.

The Bombers dropped their second in a row Tuesday evening, as they fell to Altamont, 8-1. Horner picked up the loss, throwing six innings and allowing four runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out six. Brown had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Vandalia Track
The Vandalia boys and girls track team held its first home meet of the season Tuesday evening, as they hosted South Central Conference foes Greenville and Pana. The Girl took first with 74 points as a team, collecting first place in seven events, while the boys took second with 59 team points, falling behind Pana’s 78 points. A week after the boy’s 4×200-meter relay team set a new school record, the 4×100-meter relay team (consisting of Bobby Bradley, Trevor Smalls, Blake Barth and Ethan Meyer) set a new school record with a time of 45.74 seconds.

Bobby Bradley takes off on the first leg of the 4×100-meter relay Tuesday evening. The relay team ended up setting a new school record of 45.47 seconds.

Katie Tarkington races to the finish in the final leg of the 4×100-meter relay. The relay team finished first with a time of 52.1 seconds.
