Area girls roundup: BSE girls finish strong, top South Central

FARINA — A strong second quarter gave the Brownstown/St. Elmo Lady Bombers the lead. A solid fourth quarter secured a win.
Brownstown/St. Elmo earned a 41-28 girls basketball victory over South Central last Thursday night.
South Central held an 8-6 lead after one period of play, but Brownstown/St. Elmo went on an 11-3 run in the second quarter to take a 17-11 lead into intermission.
The third period was nearly even, and BSE was clinging to a seven-point lead entering the fourth quarter.
The Bombers then outscored the Cougars, 16-10, in the fourth quarter to finish off the hosts.
Kyrstyn Fitch scored 11 points to lead BSE. Emily Bone contributed nine rebounds and seven points, while Morgan Brown and Dana Shelton added six points apiece.
Abby Hahn scored nine points to lead South Central's balanced attack. Keely Smith and Sidney Wilkins added five points apiece, while Alannah Sigrist added four points.
"The girls played hard tonight," South Central Coach Gary Kapper said. "Defensively, we hustled and made some plays. Offensively, we moved the ball well to get a lot of open shots. But they just did not fall."

A close win for BSE girls
BROWNSTOWN — The BSE girls earned a 50-48 win over Casey-Westfield on Tuesday night.
Brown scored 13 points to lead the Bombers, while Fitch had nine, Audriana Pruett had eight and Bone and Gabi Moore scored six apiece.
Casey-Westfield had a 25-21 lead at halftime.
Brownstown/St. Elmo- was scheduled to play at Neoga on  Thursday night.

Dieterich tourney
South Central and BSE's girls will both be competing at the Dieterich Holiday Tournament next week. The tourney schedule is printed on page 5.

Woodlawn too much
FARINA — Woodlawn had a big lead by halftime and cruised to a 48-24 win over South Central on Monday night.
Woodlawn led, 12-4, after one period of play, and then extended its lead to 28-11 by halftime. The Lady Cougars never recovered from the early deficit. South Central fell to 3-6 overall with the loss.
A freshman guard, Smith scored 12 points to lead the Lady Cougars. Hahn added seven.
The Lady Cardinals made 22 of 28 free throws in the game. Lexy Knox scored 15 points to lead Woodlawn (7-4).
South Central hosts Webber on Thursday night at 6:15 p.m.

Cougars fall at Sandoval
SANDOVAL — Everything went Sandoval's way in a 59-29 win over South Central last Wednesday night.
The Lady Blackhawks pulled away from the start, taking a 20-6 lead. Sandoval led, 45-24, by the time the third period ended. Hahn scored 16 points for the Lady Cougars.
Sandoval improved to 7-1.
