Thursday, March 13

eoe’ Al-Anon will meet at 8 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church on Fillmore Street in Vandalia.

Saturday, March 15

eoe’ Children may have their photo taken with the Easter Bunny from 8-10 a.m. at Wal-Mart in Vandalia. The fee of $5 covers the photo, a coloring page, face-painting, decorating a cookie and a chance to win an Easter basket. Proceeds go to the Children’s Miracle Network.

eoe’ An Easter egg hunt for children up through 11 years of age will be held at 10 a.m. at Sonic, 1615 N. Eighth St., Vandalia. Every egg will be filled with a surprise, and two grand prizes will be awarded.

Sunday, March 16

eoe’ The St. Elmo Fire Department and MABAS 54 (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) are holding a fundraiser for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which raises funds and awareness for childhood cancer research, at the St. Elmo Fire Station. The fundraiser begins with a ham and beans dinner at 11:30 a.m., which is followed by head shaving. Area fire departments and organizations are participating.

eoe’ A fried chicken dinner to benefit Second Chance Animal Rescue will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and under. The menu will include fried chicken with all of the trimmings, including dessert.

Monday, March 17

eoe’ A book fair sponsored by the Vandalia Community High School student council and VCHS library begins in the high school library. The book fair runs through March 28.

eoe’ The Vandalia Economic Development Commission will meet at noon at Los Amigos Restaurant on Veterans Avenue.

eoe’ The Vandalia City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at the former city hall, 221 S. Fifth St.

Tuesday, March 18

eoe’ A University of Illinois Extension workshop on using landscaping to attract birds, butterflies and other wildlife to your yard will be held at 10 a.m. at the Fayette County Extension Office, 118 N. Sixth St. in Vandalia. For more information, contact the Extension Office, 283-2753.

eoe’ The Vandalia Rotary Club will meet at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.

eoe’ Family Night, being held as part of the book fair in the Vandalia Community High School library, will be held from 4-7 p.m. Those attending are aksed to enter the building through the south door in the new addition, and turn right to get to the library.

eoe’ The Vandalia Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. in the district’s administration center.

eoe’ A dance for seniors will be held at 7 p.m. at the Patoka Service Center, 210 W. Bond St., Patoka. The cost is $5 per person.

Wednesday, March 19

eoe’ A Project Parenting playgroup for children up through 5 years old will be held from 10-11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, St. Elmo.

eoe’ A member of U.S. Congressman John Shimkus’ staff will be at the Brownstown Village Hall from 10-11:30 a.m. to meet with constituents on issues regarding federal legislation or federal agencies. Appointments are not required.

eoe’ A Lenten Luncheon sponsored by the Vandalia Ministerial Alliance will be held at noon at First United Methodist Church. A luncheon is followed by an inspirational talk. The Rev. Peter Kolb of Holy Cross Lutheran Church will speak on ‘Christ, the Savior.’ A free-will offering will be taken. To make reservations, contact First United Methodist Church, 283-3864.

eoe’ Bible Blitz will be held from 7-8 p.m. at Parkview Free Methodist Church, which is located at 1507 W. Jefferson St. in Vandalia, for all children age 3 through sixth-grade age. Bible Blitz includes Bible study, music, crafts and games. The church also offers a youth group for junior high- and high school-aged students, as well as an adult Bible Study. All gatherings are open to the public.

eoe’ TOPS IL 2020 will meet at 5:45 p.m. in the Fayette County Hospital conference room. Weigh-in is from 5-5:45 p.m.
