eoe’ Soroptimist International will meet at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia.

eoe’ TOPS IL 1872, Ramsey, will meet at the Christian Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is at 6 p.m., and the meeting is at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Tami Washburn at 283-4664.

eoe’ Al-Anon will meet at 8 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church on Fillmore Street in Vandalia.

Saturday, February 9

eoe’ Kaskaskia College and University of Illinois Extension will hold a one-day workshop, ‘Methamphetamine Prevention,’ from 9 a.m.-noon at the new KC Vandalia Campus, 2310 W. Fillmore St. The cost is $10, and the registration number is PGAD 5327 VA01D. Pre-registrationa and pre-payment are required. Participants will learn the signs and symptoms of methamphetamine use. The workshop will review the basics of meth and how to stop its use.

eoe’ The Shelby Winds Trio will perform at a benefit that the Friends of Brownstown Library are holding at Good Old Days Banquet Hall in Brownstown. The benefit, which begins at 6 p.m., will include a meal featuring fried chicken and baked ham. Tickets are $20 each and are available at First National Bank of Brownstown, Good Old Days Family Diner, Brownstown Library and Deerpark Distributors.

eoe’ The St. Elmo Educational Foundation will hold a soup supper from 5-7 p.m. in the junior-senior high school cafeteria, with all proceeds going for scholarships. The cost is $5 for adults and $4 for children under 12. The menu will include a choice of chili/soup, sandwich, dessert and drink, or hot dog, chips, cookie and drink. Carry-outs will be available.

Sunday, February 10

eoe’ The Shoal Creek Chapter of ABATE will hold a chili cook-off from 1-5 p.m. at the Eagles Club in Vandalia. The entry fee is $5, and prizes will be awarded in three categories. Registration is from 1-2 p.m., judging is from 2-3 p.m., and prizes will be awarded at 4 p.m. The event will include an in-house benefit run, live auction, attendance prizes and door prizes.

eoe’ The Men of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church will hold their annual all-you-can-eat sausage supper. Serving begins at 5 p.m.

Monday, February 11

eoe’ The Fayette County Extension Office, located at 118 N. Sixth St. in Vandalia, will host ‘Fitness and Food, Fact or Fiction,’ at 1 p.m. The course is designed to stress the most recent Dietary Guidelines for America, as well as MyPyramid food recommendations. To reserve a space for this session, call 283-2753.

eoe’ An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 3-7 p.m. at the St. Elmo Elementary School, 519 W. Second St.

eoe’ The Vandalia Lions Club will meet at the Days Inn. The executive board meets at 5:45 p.m., and the regular club meeting is at 6:30 p.m.

eoe’ The Vandalia Board of Education will hold a roundtable meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Vandalia Community High School cafeteria to talk about moving toward a closed-campus lunch hour at the high school. The meeting is being held to allow a discussion between administrators, staff, parents and community members.

Tuesday, February 12

eoe’ The Vandalia Rotary Club will meet at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.

eoe’ The Vandalia Day Unit of Home and Community Education will meet at 1 p.m. at the Fayette County Extension Office in Vandalia.

eoe’ The Vandalia Historical Society and Illinois Historic Preservation Agency will hold the annual Lincoln’s Birthday program at the Vandalia Statehouse at 2 p.m. The program, which is free and open to the public, will feature a presentation by Dale Timmermann on ‘Vandalia’s Abraham Lincoln.’ Tom Mathis will have his collection of Lincoln memorabilia on display that day.

eoe’ The Vandalia Optimist Club will meet at 6 p.m. at Ponderosa Steakhouse.

eoe’ The PM group of the La Leche League of Effingham will meet at 6 p.m. at the Effingham Assembly Church on U.S. Route 45.

eoe’ The Fayette County Board will meet at 7 p.m. in the large courtroom on the second floor of the Fayette County Courthouse.

eoe’ The monthly meeting of the Evans Public Library Board of Trustees will be held at 7 p.m. at the library. The meeting is open to the public.

eoe’ AmVets will meet at 8 p.m. at the American Legion Home in Vandalia.

Wednesday, February 13

eoe’ A Project Parenting playgroup for children up through 5 years old will be held from 10-11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, St. Elmo.

eoe’ A dance for seniors will be held at 7 p.m. at the Patoka Service Center, 210 W. Bond St., Patoka. Admission is $5.

eoe’ Bible Blitz will be held from 7-8 p.m. at Parkview Free Methodist Church, which is located at 1507 W. Jefferson St. in Vandalia, for all children age 3 through sixth-grade age. Bible Blitz includes Bible study, music, crafts and games. The church also offers a youth group for junior high- and high school-aged students, as well as an adult Bible Study. All gatherings are open to the public.

eoe’ TOPS IL 2020 will meet at 5:45 p.m. in the Fayette County Hospital conference room. Weigh-in is from 5-5:45 p.m.
