Residents in two of Vandalia’s four wards will have a choice when casting aldermanic ballots in April.
As the filing deadline passed on Monday afternoon, races were formed in Wards I and IV. One four-year term is up for election in each of the city’s four wards.
In Ward I, incumbent Bret Brosman has three challengers – Jason Paslay, Kenneth Hubler and Neil Clark.
In Ward IV, long-time alderman Larry Cable is being challenged by B. John Clark.
In Wards II and III, the incumbents are not seeking re-election, and newcomers filing for those seats are running without opposition. Ward II Alderman Larry Bennett and Ward III Alderwoman Lisa McNutt are not seeking re-election.
In Ward II Russ Stunkel is running unopposed, and in Ward III, Terry Beesley is running without opposition.
Also on the April 5 ballot is a two-year term in Ward IV. Andy Lester, who was appointed to a Ward IV seat this spring following the resignation of Chad Feldpouch, is the only candidate for that two-year term.
More candidates could surface prior to the election, but those wishing to become write-in candidates have to become certified as legal write-in candidates in order for their votes to be counted.
VANDALIA SCHOOL BOARD
Four seats are up for election in the spring, and the four people holding those seats are the only candidates.
Those seeking re-election to the board include Matt Hall, Jay G. Smith and Judy Wasmuth. Also on the ballot is Connie Goldsmith, who is seeking election to the seat to which she was appointed when Tammy Woolsey resigned.
