Aces rally to beat Rams in EIC action

RAMSEY – Mulberry Grove held the Rams scoreless in the fourth quarter last Friday, securing a come-from-behind win, the first Egyptian-Illini Conference victory of the Aces’ season.

The Aces trailed 21-12 at halftime, but used a 14-0 run over the final eight minutes to produce a 38-27 win.

Junior Devonta Williamson paced Mulberry Grove (2-9, 1-2 EIC) with a game-high 12 points, but it was freshman Ty James who made the biggest mark in the final period.

James scored all six of his points then, making one field goal and 4-of-7 free throws.

Sophomore Damian Latham had seven points for the Aces, and senior Derek Phillips had seven rebounds and six points.

Ramsey opened the game strong but scored just six second-half points in the game, its fourth EIC loss.

Junior Tylor Knisley had a game-high 12 points for the Rams (3-9, 0-4 EIC), including eight in the second quarter, which saw Ramsey score 16 points to take a 21-12 lead.

The Aces had led 7-5 after the first period.

Senior Colton Hunt had eight rebounds for the Rams, who missed 20 shots from the field in the second half.
